My theory is some type of government genetic research gone bad unleashing a virus that has caused "the others" to become infected and mutually creating creatures that are larger than life/uncontrollable. Oceanic flight coincidentally crashes upon this island which will help these "others" regain life and expose the research gone bad.
My theory is Jack and Desmond (did I spell that right?) are half brothers. Jack's dad was involved in some kind of chemical/genetic research and the others are the "mistakes". I think Jack will eventually cure them after finding his father's research team's notes in Desmonds computer system. I think Jack's father had a second secret family.
That can not be true because it is only a matter of time before Jack sees the girl from the bar in the airport. Once they see each other they will realize that neither group is the others.
